Find HostGator Nameservers:

Now, You will need to get the HostGator nameservers. Then, you will be asked to put these records for GoDaddy domain settings. The process is easy and straight-forward. Just follow along.

Let me show you how to find HostGator DNS Nameservers:

  • Find HostGator’s Welcome Email.
  • Login to HostGator cPanel (http://yourdomain.com/cpanel).
  • On the right-side menu, Check General Settings.
  • You will find two NameServers (Primary & Secondary).

Okay! Now, You just have got the HostGator Nameservers. Time to move forward. In the steps below, I will show you where to put these Nameservers in Domain Name settings. This way, your website URL will be served from HostGator hosting account.

The default HostGator Nameservers will be something like ns1.hostgator.com and ns2.hostgator.com. These records are exactly what you need to get at this point.

Ps. Don’t worry at all! Your domain will still be with Godaddy. We will just use it with HostGator web hosting account. And it is the same way how you can add add-on domains to your hosting account.

Connect GoDaddy Domain to HostGator:

In order to connect GoDaddy domain to HostGator, You will need to login to your GoDaddy control panel with your username and password. And follow the following steps:

  • Click “Manage for DOMAINS to access GoDaddy DNS Manager.

Then, You will need to select the domain name you want to edit Nameservers for. And click on ‘Set Nameservers’ from ‘Nameservers’ tab.

A popup will appear asking you to put in your Nameservers. You’ll have to select “CUSTOM” for Setup Type and click on “ADD NAMESERVER”.

Basically, Standard Setup Type means Default Godaddy Nameservers. You only choose it if you already have a hosting account with GoDaddy.

Custom Setup Type means Any Other Nameservers. You will need to choose it if you’re hosting with other hosting providers like: HostGator, BlueHost, .. etc.

 

After that, You will be asked to enter your custom nameservers. Enter the default HostGator Nameservers as shown below. And then, click “OK“.

Now that you’ve completed pointing HostGator Nameservers Godaddy, You will need to wait for up to a few hours in order for the changes to propagate globally.

Please be noted that the propagation waiting time is the same with any domain registrar you might use; NameCheap, GoDaddy, ..etc. This default process is called Domain Name Propagation System.
